The local paper Nice Matin publishes an article signed by the art critic, Ms. Vannier, with these words :

"Gabriel Calef's artworks, executed with oil painting, are treated in the most original way such as they show different layers by superposition of strata so that these relief paintings appear in an unusual shape. "Nevertheless one's eye is attracted by such a work in superposition which calls for new grounds of unconformity, that brings about a kind of an irrational rush. (...)"

Cannes' Townhouse orders him a painting to represent the city crest in 1994, which has been exhibited there since then.

During the 1998 Football Wolrd Cup, the Dutch team ordered him a big painting presenting their team in action versus the Brazilian one. Then the painting went on show at the Vista Palace in Monte Carlo, and therefore published in newspapers.

He also did some shows abroad, more particularly in Osaka, Japan in 1990 (at the Toro Kimura gallery) and in Washington D.C. in the USA in 1995 (at the The Original Piece gallery).

Joined the European Academy for Graphic Art. Also the International Cultural Association "Arts et lettres de France", of which he won a silver medal in 2002.

Sells some of his artworks to foreign custumers and artists as well in the USA (Mr. Marian Polan, movie director, Marina del Rey, California), as in England or in the Middle East. Also in France to peolple in politics or in media life.

Principle of the "relief pictures" manufacture...

The Pictures of Gabriel Calef are made on a special cardboard of 5 mm thickness, cut up according to required motive.
The glue used for fix the support, is identical to that used in Canadian aeronautics. Once painting dries, a mat finish is applied, to assure colours long life...
